about

A love-hate homage to springtime in Edmonton -- a lovely time of year where flowers bloom next to giant potholes while a city goes to sleep every night wondering "will it snow tomorrow?"

lyrics

We were safe from the ugliness of this town
when the white blanket rested gently on the brown
Now, perhaps my nan’s necklace will be found

Sun glares off the fields covered undisturbed
little rocks scratch our cars and trees and curbs
and howling winds blowin’ in from the suburbs

Shake shake shake
Shake the cold away
Hope that it don't stay

Breathe breathe breathe
Breathe while you still can
Dirt waits where it began
It's springtime in my hometown

Winter's air leaves the skin feeling dry and raw
leave your boots on the heater by the door to thaw
short time til we’re back into winter’s maw

Potholes plague the streets, drives and avenues
deep ruts make cuts and leave a trail of ooze.
Hubcaps left behind, but I don't know whose.

Shake shake shake
Shake the cold away
Hope that it don't stay

Breathe breathe breathe
Breathe in sunlit rain
Comin’ to wash away the stains
It's springtime in my hometown
